- Essential Question
- Can lignin be a suitable and eco-friendly alternative to increase voltage in galvanic cells?
- Project Description
-
This study explored enhancing battery voltage with environmentally sustainable lignin-coated anodes in galvanic cells. Experiments tested cells sulfate, chloride electrolytes and a control of copper sulfate, including a lead-acid battery. Lignin was coated on magnesium and lead anodes. Results showed voltage increases: 0.079-0.217V(sulfate), 0.037-0.236V(chloride), and a significant 0.345V(lead-acid). Average voltage improvements were notable: from 1.38775V to 1.66V (sulfate) and 1.664V to 1.728V (chloride), with the lead-acid seeing a jump from 1.558V to 1.903V. Lignin-coated anodes boost galvanic cell voltage, offering a better performing battery for vehicles.
