The SADC Region is significantly threatened by climate change, manifesting in droughts, floods and cyclones (amongst other hazards), limiting economic growth and food and water security and amplifying poverty and other social stresses especially among vulnerable communities. Botswana, - a particularly dry country, which receives little or no rainfall.
The tree planting initiative - with a particular focus on indigenous trees that are tolerant to the dry conditions, in Botswana forms part of the efforts to combat desertification in line with the SADC Green Wall Initiative which seeks to stop land degradation and promote a green, eco-sustainable environment.
